Sherlocked!

It started with Crime and Punishment, the greatest crime novel ever written (they say!). I have always considered myself as a mystery ant; I cant keep my hands off a good  detective story. Having devoured the abridged versions of Sherlock Holmes, Feluda, Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christies and every other mentionable sleuths of yesteryear during my childhood, I presumed that I will leave this penchant behind as I move into my 30s. Adventures, Romance, Science Fiction and Classics did carve their niche in the last decade but reading the first 14 pages of Fyodor Dostoevsky's C&P pulled the wool off my eyes :-) Who was I trying to  fool! I remain a Plebeian in the Order of Mystery Enthusiasts and as I mentioned to a very close friend recently, C&P just made me yearn madly for some traditional, straightforward mystery plots. So, to brush my basics, I went back to being Sherlocked! {Term referenced from BBC1's Masterpiece: Sherlock (S2:E1)}

So, currently, my mystery reading list (hard & soft versions) comprises:

  • The Complete Collection of Sherlock Holmes stories and novels
  • Untold Stories of Sherlock Holmes
  • The Mammoth Book of Great Detective Stories
  • A Mind to Murder
  • The Moonstone
And boy! am I hooked to the new season of Masterpiece: Sherlock! A Scandal in Belgravia lived up to its name and the Hounds of Baskerville did measure up to the challenge of taking so much liberty with the plot. After all,
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle : The Hound of Baskerville : Sherlock Holmes : Sacred
 = DO NOT MESS WITH THE PLOT, U CANT SPIN IT BETTER THAN THIS :-)

  2. Just finished watching the 3rd episode of Sherlock : The Reichenbach Fall and it kept me on the edge of the seat! I thought SH was not gonna die (atleast I kept praying Steven Moffat will not take that much liberty!!)but the twists n turns sure did just about blow my brains off :-)

    Shekhar: Thanks for the vote of confidence. And do watch Murdoch Mysteries (Canadian production - check imdb) , a very refreshing take for a detective series! Hope you will enjoy :-)
